Is a Senior Lecturer in Urological Oncological Surgery at the Institute of Urology, University College, London and Honorary Consultant Urologist at University College Hospital, London. His urological practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers, including prostate, bladder, kidney tumour. It also includes investigation and treatment of non-malignant prostate disease, and general urology as well as testosterone treatment.
He has extensive experience and training in screening and diagnosis of early prostate cancer in both UK and USA, and has published extensively in this field. He received his MD at Cambridge University and Hunterian Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1997.
He is a Teacher and Examiner at the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London.
Mark Feneley is medical advisor to Prostate Research Campaign UK, a registered charity promoting understanding and investigation of prostate diseases.
He is Chairman of the Society for the Study of Androgen Deficiency, a registered charity promoting understanding and research into androgen deficiency in men and women.
His surgical expertise includes pelvic surgery, particularly pelvic nerve sparing surgery, for cancer. He also carries out prostate laser surgery (so called "GreenLight PVP") for benign prostatic disease.
Mark Feneley read Medical Sciences at Corpus Christi College Cambridge where he was awarded the Smythe Exhibition and Smythe Scholarship. He qualified in Medicine in 1987 from Cambridge University and completed his pre-registration training at Guy’s Hospital, London.
In 1992, he took a urological research position at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, investigating prostate cancer screening, for which in 1997 he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and MD degree at Cambridge University.
After completing higher Urological training at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospitals, he worked in the USA for two years at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland where he developed particular expertise in radical prostatectomy and pelvic surgery.
Research interests focus on use of prognostic markers in early stage prostate cancer for treatment decision-making – and treatment selection in relation to disease and treatment outcomes.
His research interests also include the use and safety of testosterone replacement therapy and anti-androgen therapy, particularly with respect to prostate disease.
He is a Lead investigator for ongoing projects at the Prostate Cancer Research Centre, London, and Lead Clinician in bladder cancer at ULCH, and the North Thames Cancer Network.
His expertise is recognised in international and national professional meetings where he makes regular presentations.
He publishes extensively in peer-reviewed journals and urological textbooks, including over 90 articles and book chapters. His most recent major publication as co-editor and author is an international textbook on prostate cancer, Prostate Cancer: Principles and Practice, published by Taylor and Francis.
