Do I need a referral from my doctor?
Though it is better to have a referral from your doctor if possible, where you do not wish them to know about your problems or the results of you tests, because this is an entirely confidential screening and treatment service, there is no need to inform them. We are always happy to write to your doctor at any stage in your treatment if you then wish us to do so.

Do I need to be screened at the clinic before I start treatment?
Yes, no treatment can be given before you have attended the clinic and your need for treatment assessed on the basis of a full history, questionnaires, physical examination and laboratory tests.

Do I have to come to London for treatment and follow-up?
These services can only be provided by visiting our Harley Street Consulting rooms, but the full screening and starting treatment can be performed on the initial and follow-up visits using our ‘same-day service’ providing your laboratory tests can be carried out by 11a.m. that day.

Will my results be confidential.
At every visit you will be given full details of the screening and laboratory tests for your own records, and in the clinic all such data is kept entirely confidential as required by The Health Care Commission.

Can I get re-imbursement from my Private Medical Insurance Company?
Though the Consultants at the Men’s Health Centre are recognised as specialists with the Medical Insurance Companies, these companies generally regard Testosterone Replacement Treatment in the same light as HRT for women and do not allow claims. If you have been referred by your GP, and a medical condition which is allowable under the terms of your insurance is diagnosed at the centre, then some of the costs of you investigation and treatment may be claimed. However, whatever arrangements you have with your insurers, we do require payment of the full fees directly at the time of the consultation by cheque or by credit card.

Will previous blood tests I have had done elsewhere make it unnecessary to have further ones done at the Centre for Men’s Health?
The very detailed hormonal, biochemical, haematological and urinary profiles carried out on the first and follow-up visits, need to be performed by the specialist laboratory we use so that we can integrate them into our purpose-built computerised record system, and interpret them in relation to our standardised reference values.

How long is a course of treatment?
Treatment generally is for minimum of a 3 month trial period to establish the efficacy and safety of treatment for each person. Where there is a remediable cause such as a period of intense stress or excess alcohol intake, this is sometimes sufficient to bring about full recovery. Usually however long-term treatment is needed to maintain the many benefits of testosterone replacement, but this is quite safe providing at least 6 monthly checks are maintained.
