Guidelines for International Clients
One hour assessment
- New patients must attend in London for a one hour full assessment.
- We cannot prescribe treatment unless we’ve seen you in person, which includes a physical exam.
- Risk: It is possible that something presents in your physical exam that requires further investigation.
- We cannot prescribe medication without ongoing monitoring.
- We are happy to provide updates to a client’s GP/doctor after each visit however the Centre remains the lead in prescription and monitoring.
- Risk: You may not be a candidate for a trial of treatment as you may not clinically have low testosterone (assessment of testosterone results below). There is no way to know this until we see blood work. You could be disappointed.
Full panel blood test
- The Centre for Men’s Health has a set list of blood test markers it requires for a full assessment.
- A blood draw must occur between 9 and 11am. We have a 5-hour turnaround for a blood test report.
Risk: Sometimes our lab is unable to deliver a report within 5 hours, and critical marker results are missing. We cannot complete an assessment, nor therefore prescribe medication, until we have the full panel of blood test results. We cannot predict if and when the lab will have delays.
Blood test results may present results which:
- Indicate you are not a candidate for a trial of treatment as your results do not indicate low testosterone (testosterone deficiency syndrome).
- Require further investigation by a specialist team e.g. cardiologist, endocrinologist, urologist, etc.
Treatment preference
Not all our doctors prescribe all treatments. It is important to know your preference BEFORE BOOKING IN, so we book you in with the doctor who best suits your needs and also prescribes your preferred treatment.
If assessed to be a candidate for treatment, do you have a preference for treatment-type?:
- Testosterone-Based ( Does NOT preserve fertility)
- Gels (a bit on your shoulders every morning).
- Slow-release injection (in your bottom, every quarter)(must be administered by a doctor).
- Self-injection micro-dosing (if you are a new self-injector, you must be educated and trained for this medication and treatment, and this can only take place at least 1 week after a full assessment has been completed).
- Non-Testosterone-Based ( Attempts to preserve fertility)
- Tablet (a tablet every other day).
- Self-injection micro-dosing (if you are a new self-injector, you must be educated and trained for this medication and treatment, and this can only take place at least 1 week after a full assessment has been completed).
If you are unsure but would like to know about all these options, kindly advise.
Medications
- Post BREXIT Regulations: The EU and other countries mostly DO NOT accept a private prescription from the UK.
- A UK ADDRESS IS REQUIRED. Medication must be given or acquired in the UK and then taken home in your luggage, with a customs letter.
- Risk: Some countries will take the medication, even with a customs letter e.g. Spain. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check with your country’s regulation body.
- Return to the UK: If put on treatment, depending on which treatment, you may need to return with more or less frequency to the UK for monitoring, as well as to purchase more medication.
Ongoing Monitoring
We prefer to see you in person for your monitoring however it may be possible to book a remote (phone or Zoom video) review. This would depend on whether you can source a local blood test that meets our full panel markers and whether your doctor is authorized to counsel you while in your specific country.
We are delighted to provide a year’s estimate calendar of visits and costs to help with your planning.
Recommendation
For all of the above, we recommend you come into the UK for two nights, and best to carry out a blood test the day before seeing a doctor. All testing is between 9 and 11am. This is to protect against the lab advising they cannot provide a report for your blood test on the same day.
